Teaching is a great, yet challenging, job with many unique frustrations, but the rewards of teaching are immeasurable. A teacher is a person who creates an environment that is conducive to learning — a place where students can engage themselves in a subject or discipline as they integrate a body of essential information, concepts, and/or skills. I want my students to enjoy the interaction in my classroom and to be challenged by the intellectual discussion of course material. I, as a teacher, want to craft a learning environment that is challenging, yet supportive. This environment sets goals and deadlines, delivers resources, evaluates performance, and offers enough reinforcements to minimize distractions and sustain motivation.
Teachers foster creativity, develop character, give students lenses with which to view the world and provide students with the skills they need to reach their potential and lead productive lives. A teacher makes a difference in the world by enabling each of the students to fully maximize their talents, imagination, skills and character. Teaching also allows me to be a student throughout my career as I incorporate new research findings, technologies and events into my classroom. Teaching, therefore, is an opportunity to have an experience of life-long learning.
